October Half Term in Coventry

There’s always lots to do in Coventry City Centre, and this half term is no exception. We’ve curated this list to help you with the planning, there’s lots on offer from family fun days to crafty activities and everything in between and with Halloween at the end of the half term week, there are themed activities across the city. So, however you plan to spend the spooky season, take a look through and find the perfect activity for you and the family.

The Belgrade Family Fun Day

Looking for things to do with the kids this October half-term? The Belgrade Theatre are inviting you to join them for a free Family Fun Day with a fantastic variety of Halloween-themed activities to keep your kids entertained. What’s more, there’s no booking required, just drop in!

Expect storytelling, a dressing up station with real stage costumes from the theatre, and arts and crafts inspired by their upcoming family shows, including David Walliams’ Demon Dentist.

Coventry Cathedral Blitz Museum

Explore what life was like in wartime Coventry…

Transport yourself back to 1940’s Coventry in the Coventry Cathedral Blitz Museum.

Located in the corner of the Cathedral Ruins, the Blitz Museum is a treasure trove of 1940’s memorabilia and artefacts. Learn more about the Coventry Blitz on 14th November 1940 in the period school room and then travel through a typical house of the time and learn more about life in this era from one of our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers.

West Orchards Half Term Activities

West Orchards are hosting free Lego Workshops this half term. Visit the shopping centre on your travels, shop til you drop picking up school supplies and take a break at one of the eatery’s on offer at the Level 2 Food Court, then drop in to one of two Lego sessions throughout the day. Join the FREE Lego Workshop this half term.

Young Explorers Trail

Pick up your free explorer’s trail from Coventry Visitor Information Centre (located adjacent to Coventry Railway Station) and discover the answers to 10 questions as your search some of the very special city centre attractions to win your exclusive Coventry Young Explorers Badge.

The Trail is suitable for children of primary school age (4-11 years) and gives the perfect opportunity to explore Coventry City Centre history. The trail should take approximately 60 minutes to complete, allowing for the walking time between venues, but you could easily spend a little extra time in each venue talking with local experts to find out more about Coventry should you wish to. There is plenty to discover along the way – good luck explorers!

The Wave

Visit The Wave Waterpark this half term for some Halloween fun on the ultimate family day out this October!

Get ready to have a spooktacular time this October half term with something for thrill, spill and chill seekers. You’ll find six epic slides that are precision-engineered to fill the thrill seekers with excitement, boasting everything from the disappearing floor of The Torrent, plunging in the pool at the end of The Cascade to the high-speed rollercoaster ride on The Rapids’.

The younger spill seekers will enjoy The Reef; a large splash pad at the heart of the waterpark with jets, sprays and slides. The Wave Pool, churning 20 million litres of water every day, is a place for the chill seekers to ride the waves before going to Lazy River for a gentle wind around.

The Herbert Art Gallery Halloween Activities

Are you ready to create some marvellous makes?

Transform mason jars into enchanted forests, lighten up dark evenings with hand-crafted lantern luminaries and craft your own mischievous masks. There’s lots on for little ones at The Herbert Art Gallery throughout half term. Here’s the daily activities on offer;

Lantern Luminaries – Family friendly luminaries are the perfect way to brighten up your front door or windows. Design a colourful lantern using bright permanent markers and paper, then decorate with googly eyes and other embellishments. Finally transform your lantern art piece into a luminary by placing it over a battery tea light.

28 & 29 October – Light Up Enchanted Jars – Make an enchanted decorative jar full of green moss and magic sparkle dust. Draw and cut out silhouette fairies or goblins to live in the jar, don’t hold back with the embellishments, generously scatter glitter, buttons and sequins all over, you could even fashion beautiful flowers using tissue paper and tie them on with some yarn. For a magic touch light up your jar with a battery tealight.

Spooktacular surprises at St Mary’s Guildhall 22nd- 30th October

The newly restored and renovated St Mary’s Guildhall has launched a spooktacular half term event Ghostly Guildhall to captivate guests with ghoulish medieval mysteries and unearth history dating back to the 14th century. 

St Mary’s Guildhall is inviting visitors to explore real history and ghost stories in the heart of Coventry’s Cathedral Quarter this half term from October 22nd to 30th. Join the ghosts and ghouls of St Mary’s Guildhall and prepare for a Halloween brimming with spooky tales and superstitions. 

A Halloween-themed ghost tour of St Mary’s Guildhall is available daily at 11am and 2.30pm. Where visitors will hear about the history of Halloween, stories of resident ghosts and other mysterious happenings at the Guildhall.

Visitors in the newly unveiled Medieval kitchen can discover weird and wonderful traditions and superstitions believed to keep spirits at bay including searching for witch marks, soul cakes, willow wand crafting and charm making. 

A children’s Halloween-themed afternoon tea will also be available in Tales of Tea in the newly opened tearoom at St Mary’s Guildhall. (Advance reservations recommend) 

St Mary’s Guildhall entry is from £2.50 per child for daytime entrance and from £10 for a family (2 adults and up to 3 children) for Coventry Residents with a valid GOCV card.  Further details can be found at www.stmarysguildhall.co.uk

Bella Italia

Half Term offers are on at Bella Italia, they’re continuing with their kids offer; Kids eat for £1 with the purchase of every adult main from 4-6pm on Monday-Thursday!

Kids can enjoy three delicious courses & a Cawston Pressed Fruit Water for just £1! Meals are suitable for 2-11 year olds for the October half term and beyond.

Outside of these times, kids can get three courses & a Cawston Pressed Fruit Water. The Piccolo Menu is £6.49 – and the perfect portions for 2-6 year olds. The Grande Menu is £8.49, and consist of larger portions for growing 7-11 year olds.

Marks and Spencer have brought back their popular Kids Eat Free deal for the October school holidays. The much-loved offer has returned to M&S cafes from Monday 17th October and will run until 28th October in England.

To claim the deal, £5 or more must be spent on an adult’s food or drink for young cafe visitors to enjoy a main, snack and drink from the Kids’ Munch Menu for free. There’s only one free kids’ meal available per transaction, but the offer can save families up to £3.95 on their visit depending on whether they pick a breakfast or lunch meal.

Hot mains include pancakes with blueberries and honey, jacket potato with sausage and baked beans or a ham and cheese toastie, alongside cheese and tomato pasta and pizza options.
